Navarra Organic Production

Organic products are those which bear reference to organic production on their labelling by using the protected terms: ‘ecológico’, ‘biológico’ or their abbreviations ‘eco’ and ‘bio’.

Organic farming, in addition to producing safe, healthy food, is an unbeatable tool with which to manage our economy, society and environment.

Region covered

Due to its terrain and geographical location, Navarra is a territory where several climates converge.

This results in diversity in terms of land use, giving way to a wide variety of agricultural production which is represented in the organic sector.

History

The Council of Organic Agricultural Production of Navarra (Consejo de la Producción Agraria Ecológica de Navarra- Nafarroako Nekazal Produkzio Ekologikoaren Kontseilua (CPAEN-NNPEK)) has controlled, certified and promoted food from organic farming since 1996. CPAEN/NNPEK has been certifying and promoting Navarra’s organic products for 25 years, taking care of the land and providing the population with healthy, sustainable food.

Certification

The certification guarantees the consumer that the methods used to obtain the organic food comply with current regulations. CPAEN-NNPEK guarantees:

Trust: transparency and objectivity.
Reliability and control: permanent control and analysis of the production system and products.
Quality: food of high organoleptic and nutritional quality.
Traceability: knowledge of the origin and destination of products.

Organic farming, in addition to producing safe, healthy food, is an unbeatable tool with which to manage our economy, society and environment, and progress towards food sovereignty.

CPAEN NNPEK

In the European Union, organic products are identified with the ‘Euroleaf’ logo. The ‘Euroleaf’ guarantees that the food has been subjected to rigorous analysis and controls.

The labelling also informs the consumer of the origin (cultivation area) of the raw materials or ingredients used in its creation, using the indications ‘EU Agriculture’, ‘non-EU Agriculture’ and ‘EU/non-EU Agriculture’.

In Navarra, this certification is awarded by CPAEN NNPEK and to obtain and maintain the label, strict annual controls are carried out on both the food and the land where it is grown. The code which identifies CPAEN as the European Union Control Authority is: “ES-ECO-025-NA”.
